It was cold in the water yesterday – it was extremely cold this morning. I’m pretty sure I would have skipped my swim if I hadn’t publicly declared that I’d do this challenge for 20 days. I suppose it’s one way of being motivated. Smart move on my part.
I swam solo today. If it weren’t for the cold, the quiet scenic setting at Old Kinderhook would have been made for a perfect outdoor exercise experience. But it was cold and like yesterday, I spent the first minutes of the swim just trying to catch my breath from the shock of hitting the freezing water.
But, again like yesterday, I quickly warmed up and the time in the water became quite enjoyable. I only lasted about twelve minutes – but I swam hard and I felt invigorated after I climbed back onto the dock.
Any time exercising, be it 5 minutes or 50 is time well spent.
As I was heading back to the car, a woman came out to see if I was ok. She had read about the challenge and thought it was me (who else would be out swimming on an unseasonably cold spring morning). She watched from her window and then grew concerned when she couldn’t see me anymore (I was resting under the dock). This nice woman interrupted her yoga routine to quickly come down to make sure I hadn’t drowned – she even brought a towel for me. It’s nice to have such good concerned people living here at the lake.
Tomorrow, we’re going to be meeting at Lynn Creek at 7:30. We’re hoping to have some kayakers along for the swim. The more company the better!
