Day 1- Yes, the water was COLD!

Because the weather turned cold over the weekend, I knew that I wouldn’t have much company during my first few morning swims.
I was correct – only one other person was crazy enough to jump in the cold lake at 7 a.m. in the morning.
Trevor Dowdney, who’s a pretty good swimmer, dove into the lake before me without any hesitation.
Personally, I like to take my time and sink slowly into the water. But Trevor’s enthusiasm caused me to jump in right after.
Geez, it was cold!
While Trevor swam off into the distance, I couldn’t catch my breath because my lungs had seemingly jumped into my throat.
I immediately wanted to swim back out of the water and into my warm Jeep. Fortunately, I settled down after a few strokes and the water temperature (because I was in a wet suit) was tolerable.
I had wanted to swim about 30 minutes, but found around 20 was going to be more than enough.
I tired pretty fast.
Along with showing the lake is safe to swim in, I hope to get back in shape. Today’s swim showed I have a long way to go.
Still, it was good to get in the water accomplish the goal I set out to do. I’ll sleep well tonight.
Tomorrow I’m going to swim off Old Kinderhook’s dock at 7 a.m. and Wednesday we’re going to meet at 7:30 at the Linn Creek City Hall and go down to the lake from there.
As the weather gets a little warmer, we may have a few of these swims and paddles at night so it’s more appealing to people.
