Day 6 Lake Challenge "RAIN OUT"

Today was the first “rain out” of the Lake Challenge. We had a lot of rain over the weekend and it rained early Monday morning – so we decided to call off the swim.
We started this challenge to educate people in two different areas – 1) that there are many healthy activities that you can participate in at the lake and 2) that the lake is safe to have fun in providing you take the proper precautions.
Today was one of those days in which it was questionable to get in the water. With heavy rain comes a run off of soil and stuff from the steep banks around the lake. That “stuff” may contain animal droppings or fertilizer or pesticide – none of it good to ingest. So it’s always good to wait a day or so until the “stuff” settles.
We probably could have gone swimming today, avoiding ingesting water, cleaned up afterwards and been fine. However, as I said, the included in the reasons we’re doing this is to educate and to promote a safe lake. We decided to take the day off of swimming.
But in the evening we’re planning on taking a run on the trails near Public Beach #2. The trails provide a great view of the lake and a tough workout. If you haven’t taken a walk or run on them, it’s about a 4 mile round trip from the parking lot and at the turnaround, you’ll enjoy one of the best views of the lake.
Tomorrow, the weather is supposed to be warm and we should have no problems jumping back in and swimming.
