Day 7 Lake Challenge - Back in the water
Last Tuesday I swam at Old Kinderhook and the temperature was around 40 degrees. I managed to stay in the water for around ten minutes and jumped out about as fast as I jumped in. It was only day two of the challenge and even those ten minutes left me tired.
This morning was sunny and warm. As a result, the swim was very enjoyable. I was able to swim comfortably for about 25 minutes and probably could have gone longer but needed to head to work.
On warm quiet mornings like these, I’m reminded how great it is to live at the lake. As I swim, I’m able to peak above the water as I come up to breath and every once in a while I’ll glass over at the shore and admire the trees or rocks or beautiful homes (not necessarily the condos). Most people only get to experience this during a vacation. Because I live at the lake, I don ‘t have to go on vacation to enjoy it. I can work and play all in the same day. How great is that?
I’m a week and a half into the challenge and I’m feeling pretty good. I was a little tired after the first week because my body wasn’t used to swimming so much (as well as being shocked by a cold bath every morning). But I seem to be getting a little stronger and fitter with each day. I think I’ll be in decent shape by the time this is all over in a few weeks.
I realize that swimming in the lake is not everyone’s cup of tea. So we’re going to try to have some evening walks for the public as well as some other activities. Stay tuned this week for some gatherings that everyone can come and participate.
